Finding people with Scout

How to set up a campaign so Scout finds people rather than just companies, what the People / Needs verification / Companies tabs mean, and what a Scout run costs.

Last updated 2026-09-23

Scout looks for people who match your campaign. It searches the public web, including LinkedIn profiles, company sites, news and directories, and gives you a list to review. Scout never contacts anyone. People you accept become ordinary leads in the campaign. Scout is included on the Scale plan and is currently in beta.

1. Set up the targeting first

Scout uses the targeting of the campaign you run it for. Three fields decide what it finds:

FieldExampleWhat it does
Keywords (job titles)Head of E-commerce, E-commerce ManagerThese are what find people. Scout searches LinkedIn profiles for each title. Without any titles, Scout can only find companies.
Industriesconsumer electronics retailNarrows the people search and drives the company search.
LocationsPolandNarrows both searches. Scout uses the first location.

Tips for better results:

  • Write titles the way people write them on LinkedIn. Give 2–3 variants, and avoid broad words like "manager".
  • One or two specific industries work better than a long list. If the product category matters, name it: "home appliances", not "retail".
  • Stick to one country or city per run.

2. Run it

Open Leads → Scout, pick the campaign and press Run web discovery. A run takes 1–3 minutes. The Latest run panel shows which step Scout is on. When the run ends, the panel shows:

  • how many LinkedIn profiles, web results, pages, companies and people it found
  • the exact searches it ran
  • the reason, if the run stopped early

3. Review the results

  • People: each has a confirmed LinkedIn profile and is ready to use in a campaign. Tick the ones you want and press Add to leads.
  • Needs verification: people Scout found on the web but couldn't match to a single LinkedIn profile. Scout never picks between two possible matches. Check these people yourself before you add anyone.
  • Companies: companies that match your industry, shown for context. A company is never added to a campaign.

Every fact on a card links to its source and is marked as either observed (the source states it) or inferred.

The list shows what your latest run found. Switch to All results to see everything Scout has found for your account. In the People tab, the best matches for your target titles come first, with a "Matches: …" badge. People who are already your leads are marked and can't be added twice. Anyone matching your campaign's exclusions (for example "recruiter" or a competitor's name) is left out. You choose how many people to look for (10, 25 or 50) next to the Run button.

4. What it costs

When a run starts, Scout reserves credits. You pay 3 credits for each person who ends up campaign-ready. People who are already your leads are shown but not charged. When the run ends, you get back the rest of the reservation. If a run finds nobody, or stops because of an error on our side, you get the whole reservation back.
